Better mental health starts with Headspace

Hi and welcome to this Headspace walk. Let's start walking nice and easy. No matter how you're feeling today, this walk is focused on helping you feel a little bit more grateful. Maybe that's a big broad feeling or maybe it's centered on something specific. But no matter what many people say that just thinking through what we're grateful for, makes us happier and less anxious. Start with an easy pace. No need to walk anywhere in particular or just heading out for a stroll. Notice how it feels as each foot lifts from the ground and then lands back down. Just one foot in front of the other. Breathing in and out. Not trying to sink your breaths with your steps, just walking and breathing evenly. As you walk, notice how the body moves. What part of the foot lands first? How do the hips move? and your arms? Being mistuned in can make walking feel a bit awkward. But try not to change anything. Just feel the muscles as they contract and then release. Take a few moments just to settle into your pace. No right or wrong speed. And if thoughts about where you need to go or what you need to do pop up, just let them go and return back to the body, that feeling of your feet moving against the ground. Now, as you walk, choose one thing you're grateful for at this moment. Could be the weather, could be something you see. could even just be that you were able to head out for a bit and it's okay if it takes you a minute to think of something, that's normal. Just give yourself a moment to find something that makes you happy, makes you smile, and then let your mind rest on whatever that is. Keep moving at your own pace. If you get distracted and think of something else, that's okay. Just keep coming back to that thought of gratitude. As you walk, imagine a pinprick of light in your chest. Just a tiny beam of warmth that's been there all along. No need to focus on it. No need to get the image just right, it's just there, a little light inside you. Now take a moment to remember a time when you did something or said something that made another person smile, something they appreciated. Can be recent or a long time ago. relive that moment in your mind. Think about how that person looked or how they responded when you were kind to them. At the same time, let that drop of sun in your chest expand. Growing in every direction from a drop, to a gumball, to a tennis ball. Letting that warmth and light expand through your body in every direction. Nothing to do but walk along at an easy pace, imagining that warm light growing inside you. If you get distracted, that's okay. Keep coming back to that image of light, feeling its warmth with...
