(mouse clicks) (gentle music) Headspace Studios. (soft piano music) Hi, friends. It's Rosie here. Welcome to "Radio Headspace" and to Tuesday. So, do you ever find yourself chasing happiness? Well, well, well. Aren't we all? Before writing my first book, I remember thinking, "I should write a book about happiness." Then, quickly, very quickly, I realized that was not a great idea, not because I wasn't happy per se, but because I felt like there was still too many areas in my life that I still wasn't happy with. It wasn't that I was engulfed in gloom, but there were undoubtedly things that didn't scream bliss, if you know what I mean. My book ended up being about self-love, but happiness still created a genuine curiosity within me, and I've been figuring it out little by little ever since. So today, I'd like to share what I've learned so far about the nature of happiness and how we can cultivate it from within. Several years ago, I found myself on a seemingly ordinary trip to the grocery store. I was wandering through the aisles, lost in thought, mentally recounting the various areas of my life that felt a little off kilter. I had a recent spat with my dad, and it weighed heavily on my mind, and the stresses of daily life just seemed magnified. As I meandered through the store, I unexpectedly ran into an old yogi friend, Alex. We had lost touch over the years, but I remembered her as the one always laughing, radiating joy every day at our old studio. As we began to catch up, I asked her the typical cliched question: are you still as happy as you were when you taught your 6:00 a.m. class? She smiled gently, paused, and said, "I'm a different kind of happy now." She went on to tell me about her journey, how she quit teaching yoga and ended up going back to school to get her law degrees. She told me how she faced personal setbacks, career challenges, and the bitter taste of a very recent divorce. But with each story she told, she emphasized the lessons she learned and how they contributed to her understanding of happiness. She said, "Happiness isn't just about the outward journey. It's about the inner journey for me. It's about being honest and authentic to who I am now." Her words resonated deeply with me. It wasn't about seeking a life without struggles or aiming for constant bliss. It was about perspective, growth and understanding. As we parted ways, I felt a sense of lightness, the type of lightness you would feel after a deep, cleansing breath. (Rosie exhales) I realized that my pursuit of self-love was intertwined with my understanding of happiness. Alex's story became a reminder that it's okay not to feel on top of the world every day, but it's also essential to recognize and accept what is and perhaps find a different kind of happy. And as...
