(light music) Headspace Studio. Hi friends, it's Rosie here. Welcome to Radio Headspace and to Tuesday. So, like many of you, I've had to navigate the sea of life's overwhelming tasks and responsibilities, and through it all I've come to understand the significance of prioritization. A while back, I was on a yoga teaching tour, writing for a yoga magazine, and doing a podcast, all at the same time. It felt like being caught in a relentless tide of tasks that threatened to sweep me away. There was always something more to do. I was completely overwhelmed. I gradually began to understand the importance of focusing on what truly mattered. I began prioritizing myself, and I let go of one task and eventually one job at a time, so I could rest. It wasn't easy, but here I am, healthy, awake, and better able to take on the next thing. So with that said, today is all about how to set priorities, a skill that when combined with mindfulness, can drastically improve our efficiency and peace of mind. Now, the first thing to consider, friends, is that prioritizing isn't about doing more. It's about doing what matters. We can identify these essential tasks through mindfulness and bring our entire focus to them. How do we do this? Well, let's consider the story of one of my mindfulness students, Jane. Jane was an entrepreneur balancing a mountain of responsibilities. Her never ending to-do list filled her days with stress and anxiety, so much so that it strained her relationships. The weight of her professional commitments seeped into her personal life, clouding her connections with the veil of stress and preoccupation. Now, from my experience, the biggest litmus test for gauging my stress levels has always been observing the state of my relationships. When I noticed them suffering, I knew my stress was out of hand, and mindfulness would help me get things back in order. I thought this might help Jane too. So we made Jane a plan pairing mindfulness and prioritization together. This would allow her to direct her energy and attention toward what truly matters in the present moment. Jane's life began to shift when she put this into practice. First, she assessed her to-do list, taking a moment to evaluate each task mindfully. She asked herself questions like, Is this task essential? Does it align with my values and long-term goals? From there, she was able to decide what was most important, what she could leave for later or even get rid of completely. And that's a tip for you too. Pausing to ask those simple questions enabled Jane to channel her energy effectively and mindfully. More importantly, since she was less overwhelmed, she became more present and available for her girlfriend, friends and family. Learning to prioritize is an art, because it requires us to constantly reassess our goals and responsibilities. Mindfulness allows us to cultivate a greater awareness of our needs and aspirations, enabling us to...
