Hey, you guys. I'm Elayna and this is Riley and you might know us from our YouTube channel, Sailing La Vagabonde. We've been sailing around for 10 years now, documenting it all, and I suppose through our videos, we just hope to inspire people and encourage people to take chances because most of the time it works out and I think humans are made to do hard things. We are stoked to be partnering with Headspace. We're gonna share with you guys today some of our favorite activities and meditations that have helped us with our daily lives. (boat engine revving) So before we begin, I'm really glad that we live in an era where this isn't gonna be the first time that you've heard this. It might be a little cliche at this point, but everyone really needs to take care of their mental health and it turns out that's especially true for seafarers. I was really shocked to find out that the number one health issue for sailors everywhere is mental health. It was just crazy for me to find out, although we have experienced this firsthand over the years. For Elayna and I, we're very fortunate that we came across Headspace. I think it was probably about three years ago now, and since then, it's become a core component of our daily lives and it really has helped us parent, live out here, film, thrive, and sail on the open ocean. So for me, you've gotta try the intentional and motivational walks and runs. I never thought to combine exercise with mindfulness in the past and these are just a banger. So I popped a couple of those in the collection too. Definitely give them a go. I've really come to treasure these walks and runs amongst the chaos that is our lives on the boat. I always come away from it feeling a flood of endorphins. Also really grounded, just more present and you notice the things in nature you would otherwise just miss. So you're gonna come to Headspace to meditate, 100%. There's a whole bunch of science there. Everyone knows that it's fantastic for you. But for me recently within the app, I'm a free diver, so this is of particular interest to me, I've come across the breath working sessions. And so what I've found is that if I have say, an important decision to make on board, I can sneak off down to my cabin and do my little session in there. And what I've found that it helps with is clarity, focus, and even for if there's any free divers out there, with hypoxia, you're gonna get a few little feelings of euphoria. So that's always nice. So nice. I love the focus breath work classes just before I'm about to work. It just like, makes me realize what's important and I can focus on one task rather than 10 at once.
