Headspace Q&A: Kristin Fowler
You woke up this morning and the first thing you thought was…
Glad to feel rested, physically and mentally.
What is your typical morning ritual?
I am one of those people who has their greatest burst of creative energy just after waking up and drinking coffee or tea. I am happy to engage in creative work at that point. Then take a break. So, wake up early → make tea/coffee → go to workshop → do some work before too much mental noise starts to creep in → feel some sense of creative satisfaction → take a break and meditate → start the second part of my morning.
What keeps you up at night?
Pretty standard concerns: the health and happiness of the people I love, work, money, choices, messing up work.
What advice would you give someone sitting down to meditate for the first time?
Assume that you won’t get it immediately and be patient because once you get used to it, it becomes a very comforting ritual that your day will feel strange without.
When and where do you like to meditate?
Late morning. Anywhere (truly).
How does your mind feel before you meditate?
Searching for distractions and other quick fix solutions.
How does it feel after?
Calm—not panicked about tough things that might come up and ready to focus.
What’s your favorite Headspace pack?
Creativity.
What has meditation helped you with the most?
Not immediately reacting to every single thing that happens—seeing otherwise derailing situations with some perspective.
What’s the last thing that made you laugh out loud?
My husband’s really dry sense of humor.
What’s the kindest thing someone did for you this week?
My friend told me that she was grateful for me.
Who or what is the current love of your life?
My husband, my family. The peaceful landscape of the desert.
What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
Everything is always changing. Your perspective on the current state of your life is just as important as the things that are out of your control.
