Dora Kamau

Dora is currently one of the meditation and mindfulness teachers at Headspace. Her meditation and mindfulness journey began in 2010. After experiencing a series of unfortunate events, she started exploring holistic approaches to heal her mind, body and spirit. By 2016, Dora was fully committed to a daily practice and since then, she’s been on a mission to share her healing journey with others — creating spaces for people of all backgrounds to experience and embrace their full selves.

About Dora

Dora’s desire to teach meditation stemmed from the lack of diversity in the mindfulness community, and a yearning for more wellness spaces with black representation. In 2019, she completed a formal 200-hr meditation teacher training with the Lab of Meditation.

Over the course of this program, her meditation practice evolved as she learned about mindfulness through the lenses of trauma informed practice, social and racial justice, clinical psychology, and science. In 2017, she founded Bliss Your Heart, a women’s community based in Vancouver, BC. She hosted monthly in-person gatherings and events, and created a space for women to share their stories and connect through the power of conversation.

Dora’s interest in the way the mind works and her love of being in service to others led her to complete a B.A. in Psychology in 2015 and B.Sc. in Psychiatric Nursing in 2019. Before joining the Headspace team, she was working as a psychiatric nurse, supporting female- identifying individuals living with substance dependence and mental illness. She is a certified breathwork and somatic sound practitioner, offering a variety of unique healing modalities to her community.

A lover of plants and nature, Dora lives in Los Angeles. She loves to spend her free traveling and exploring the great outdoors.
